Scale Computing Ships New Edge-Computing Appliance with Plug-and-Play Deployment Tools
INDIANAPOLIS – December 1, 2025 – Scale Computing today announced general availability of the HC10 Edge Appliance, a ruggedized, toaster-sized node that arrives on site with fully integrated hyper-converged software and a cloud-based “zero-touch” console that lets non-technical staff complete deployment in fewer than 60 minutes. The release comes as global demand for edge infrastructure accelerates—research firm STL Partners projects the total addressable market will reach USD 424 billion by 2030, growing 32 percent annually as retailers, manufacturers and public-safety agencies push compute closer to end users.
The HC10 is the first edge device in Scale’s portfolio to embed the company’s new Deploy-Now toolkit: a QR-code-driven workflow that automatically discovers the appliance, downloads site-specific configuration files and joins the node to an existing SC//Fleet Manager instance without local CLI input. Once powered and cabled, the appliance self-configures storage clusters, firewall rules and VM templates while streaming telemetry to central IT. Early-adopter data collected by Scale show median “unbox-to-VM” times of 47 minutes across 214 pilot sites, 86 percent of which had no on-site technicians.
“Every extra truck-roll costs us roughly USD 1,400,” said Carla Nguyen, VP of Technology at regional grocer FreshMart, one of ten beta customers. “With HC10 we shipped units directly to 78 stores, let store managers scan a code on their phone and watched the clusters appear in our dashboard—no travel, no integrator, no downtime.”
Market pressure to simplify edge roll-outs is intensifying. Grand View Research estimates the hardware segment retained more than 42 percent of the edge-computing market in 2024, but the software segment will outpace it with a 37 percent CAGR through 2033 as buyers prioritize low-code orchestration and AI-ready platforms.
Scale’s approach—bundling software licensing, lifecycle automation and remote monitoring into a single SKU—mirrors the shift toward OPEX-friendly, subscription-based consumption.
The HC10 ships with Intel Xeon-D processors, 512 GB NVMe storage and dual 10 GbE SFP+ ports in a fan-less chassis rated for 0 °C–50 °C operating temperatures. Each node consumes 35 W, allowing ceiling-mount installation without dedicated HVAC. Nodes can be clustered pairwise for high availability or deployed singly for space-constrained kiosks, pop-up clinics or connected-vehicle lots. Native integration with Scale’s SC//HyperCore OS provides automated tiering, snapshots and failover without additional VMware or Veeam licensing.
“Edge projects stall when remote sites lack IT staff,” said Jeff Ready, CEO and co-founder of Scale Computing. “By making the appliance its own deployment engine we eliminate the skills barrier and let organizations scale to hundreds of locations as easily as they ship a laptop.”
IDC’s latest Enterprise Infrastructure Tracker shows 61 percent of new edge deployments in 2025 will target retail, logistics and regional healthcare—verticals where uptime windows are measured in minutes, not hours. The HC10’s built-in “dark-site” mode keeps workloads running during WAN outages and syncs changes once connectivity returns, addressing a key concern for chains operating in rural or emerging markets.
Scale will offer the HC10 under a five-year subscription that includes hardware refresh, platform updates and 24×7 support at USD 3.25 per node per hour of runtime, metered monthly. Volume shipments begin December 15 through Scale’s channel partners and Dell Technologies’ IoT Solutions Marketplace.
