Chrono Nexus’ Gaming Franchise Greenlit for Feature Film Adaptation With Emmy-Winning Showrunner Attached
LOS ANGELES, CA – November 19, 2025 – Silverback Studios in partnership with Waypoint Interactive announced today that the critically acclaimed action-RPG franchise Chrono Nexus will be adapted into a major motion picture, with production slated to begin in Q1 2026. The project marks the latest high-profile entry in the booming gaming-to-film pipeline, bringing aboard veteran television producer Rebecca Sloane—creator of the award-winning series The Peripheral and The Old Man—as showrunner and lead screenwriter.
The Chrono Nexus franchise has sold over 35 million units worldwide since its 2018 debut, generating more than $1.2 billion in revenue across four mainline titles and two spinoff games. The film adaptation will center on the series’ protagonist, Kael Vance, a temporal operative navigating fractured timelines to prevent a reality collapse. According to a recent industry analysis from The Hollywood Reporter, successful media adaptations function as “superchargers” for gaming franchises, with A Minecraft Movie driving a 30 percent surge in monthly active users for the already-dominant title earlier this year . Nearly half of those new players—46 percent, representing 2.08 million users—were entirely new to the franchise, demonstrating the unparalleled audience expansion potential of film crossovers.
Sloane’s appointment signals Silverback’s commitment to narrative depth and character-driven storytelling. Her work on The Old Man earned three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, while her world-building expertise on The Peripheral translated complex source material into accessible, binge-worthy television. Under her exclusive two-year deal with Waypoint Interactive, Sloane will oversee all creative aspects of the Chrono Nexus adaptation, including casting, production design, and post-production supervision.
Principal photography is scheduled for March 2026 in Vancouver, British Columbia, leveraging regional tax incentives and established VFX infrastructure. The production budget is estimated at $140 million, positioning it as a mid-tier tentpole with franchise potential. Waypoint Interactive will co-finance the project alongside Sierra/Affinity, with international distribution rights already secured in 42 territories. The film is targeting a summer 2027 theatrical release.
Market data underscores the financial viability of gaming adaptations. A September 2025 study by Ampere Analysis measured the impact of five major TV adaptations—Devil May Cry, Fallout, Halo, The Last of Us, and Twisted Metal—and five theatrical releases, finding that premium content based on established IP consistently outperforms original concepts by margins of 3-to-1 in opening weekend box office. The research also revealed that adaptations drive measurable in-game monetization spikes, with Fallout 76 reporting a 22 percent increase in microtransaction revenue during its Prime Video series debut window.
“The convergence of interactive and linear storytelling has never been more potent,” said Marcus Thorne, CEO of Silverback Studios. “Rebecca’s track record of adapting sophisticated narratives for mainstream audiences makes her the ideal architect for Chrono Nexus. We’re not simply translating cutscenes to celluloid—we’re building a cinematic universe that honors the game’s branching narrative legacy while inviting millions of new fans into the fold. This is what next-generation IP stewardship looks like.”
The Chrono Nexus adaptation will be produced by Sloane via her Blackwood Productions banner, with Silverback Studios’ Thorne and Chief Content Officer Priya Nanduri serving as executive producers. Adrianne Palicki (The Boys, Friday Night Lights) is attached to star as Kael Vance, with additional casting announcements expected in early 2026. The film’s pre-production team includes Academy Award-winning production designer Rick Carter (Avatar: The Way of Water, Lincoln) and cinematographer Robert Richardson (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood).
