Luxury Brand Introduces Lifetime Repair Guarantee on Key Pieces
Bottega Veneta Expands “Certificate of Craft” to Entire Core Collection, Reinforcing Durability and Sustainability in High Fashion
NEW YORK – November 21, 2025 – Bottega Veneta today announced the global extension of its lifetime repair guarantee, expanding the two-year-old “Certificate of Craft” program from select handbags to every core leather good and footwear style in the permanent collection. Beginning December 1, any client who purchases a signature intrecciato piece—whether in-store or online—will receive a digital and physical warranty card that unlocks unlimited complimentary refreshes, restorations and structural repairs for life, the Kering-owned house confirmed.
The move arrives as luxury shoppers confront mounting evidence that premium price tags no longer guarantee longevity. McKinsey & Company’s State of Fashion 2025 report shows consumers now keep high-end garments and accessories for an average of 6.4 years—down 26 % since 2020—while resale platforms have seen supply of “like-new” luxury bags jump 42 % year-over-year, according to data compiled by The Fashion Law . By underwriting the after-sale life of its products, Bottega Veneta aims to slow that cycle and elevate perceived value in both primary and secondary markets.
Industry analysts say the warranty rollout is as much about balance-sheet resilience as brand equity. “Repair programs reduce return rates, stabilize second-hand pricing and create a recurring touch-point with clients,” noted Flavio Cereda, luxury goods analyst at Jefferies, in a September investor note. The bank estimates that brands offering lifetime service see customer lifetime value rise 18–22 % within three years, driven by cross-category repurchase and lower client-acquisition costs.
Bottega Veneta piloted the initiative in late 2022 on six iconic bag families; since then the atelier has completed more than 38,000 repairs, 91 % of which were shipped back to clients within ten business days, the company said. Artisans at the house’s Montebello workshop—newly doubled to 8,200 square meters—will handle the expanded workload, supported by a digital check-in portal that allows owners to photograph damage, receive a cost-free estimate and track progress in real time.
“Luxury is no longer defined by acquisition; it is measured by duration,” Chief Executive Officer Bartolomeo Rongone told Women’s Wear Daily ahead of the announcement. “By restoring every zipper, re-weaving every strip of leather and re-painting every edge at no charge, we are rewriting the modern value equation: the longer you own your Bottega, the more precious it becomes.”
Environmental groups have praised the strategy as a counterweight to fashion’s waste crisis. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation calculates that extending the life of clothing and accessories by just nine months can reduce carbon, water and waste footprints by 20–30 %. “Lifetime guarantees shift responsibility upstream to the producer, where design for durability and repairability can have maximum impact,” said fashion lead Dolly Vellanki in an emailed statement.
The program covers functional defects and normal wear; cosmetic damage from misuse or accident is evaluated case-by-case, with optional paid upgrades available. Clients who purchased qualifying pieces after January 1, 2023 may retroactively register for coverage via the brand’s website.
Market reaction has been swift: Bottega Veneta’s share of “full-price” sell-outs on luxury resale site The RealReal climbed to 68 % in the third quarter, up from 54 % a year earlier, according to data pulled November 18. Meanwhile, internal figures show repeat-purchase frequency among warranty enrollees running 1.7× higher than the house average.
