Swim Resort Partners With Eco-Brand for Reef-Friendly Vacation Kits
Marine-safe amenities initiative addresses growing consumer demand for eco-conscious travel alternatives amid expanding reef-safe sunscreen market
MIAMI, Nov. 27, 2025 – Coral Bay Resorts, a coastal hospitality group operating 12 oceanfront properties across Florida, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, announced today a strategic partnership with eco-skincare brand Stream2Sea to provide comprehensive reef-friendly vacation kits for guests. The program launches December 15, 2025, at all properties, positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable tourism as research shows conventional sunscreens contribute to coral reef degradation affecting nearly 15% of global reefs annually.
The vacation kits will be available for purchase at resort gift shops and as part of premium room packages, containing biodegradable sunscreen (SPF 30-50), chamomile-infused after-sun care, plant-based insect repellent, and reusable silicone containers. All products meet Hawaii’s Act 104 requirements, which ban oxybenzone and octinoxate—chemicals documented to cause coral bleaching even at low concentrations. A pilot program conducted at Coral Bay’s Key West location during summer 2025 showed 78% guest participation rates among families, with 92% of participants rating the products as “comparable or superior” to conventional alternatives.
The partnership arrives as the reef-safe sunscreen market demonstrates robust growth, valued at USD 2.5 billion in 2024 and projected to reach USD 4.8 billion by 2033, according to recent market analysis . Mineral-based formulations now account for approximately 52% of U.S. sunscreen revenue, driven by regulatory actions in coastal regions and increasing consumer awareness of marine ecosystem impacts. The Global Sunscreen for Beach Trip Market Report indicates a compound annual growth rate of 19.50% through 2033, with eco-friendly products representing the fastest-expanding segment.
“Coral reefs support 25% of all marine species and provide $375 billion annually in economic value through tourism and fisheries,” said Dr. Elena Martinez, Coral Bay’s Director of Sustainability. “Traditional chemical sunscreens wash off swimmers and enter waterways, where research from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows they can deform coral larvae and damage DNA at concentrations as low as 62 parts per trillion. Our partnership with Stream2Sea provides guests effective protection while eliminating these harmful impacts.”
The initiative extends beyond product provision to include educational components. Each kit contains a QR code linking to marine conservation resources, and resort staff receive training from marine biologists to guide guests on responsible reef interaction. Properties will also install complimentary sunscreen application stations at beach entrances, preventing an estimated 12,000 single-use plastic bottles annually across the portfolio. Stream2Sea, a certified B-Corp, manufactures products in sugarcane-based tubes and donates 10% of wholesale proceeds to coral restoration projects through the Coral Reef Alliance.
“Sustainable hospitality requires more than towel reuse programs—it demands systemic changes in how we source and provide guest amenities,” said Michael Torres, CEO of Coral Bay Resorts. “This partnership represents a $1.2 million investment over three years, but guest feedback and market data confirm travelers increasingly factor environmental responsibility into booking decisions. We’re seeing 23% higher customer satisfaction scores at properties with robust sustainability programs, and this initiative directly addresses what our research identifies as the top guest concern: protecting the destinations they love to visit.”
The rollout includes customization for each property’s ecosystem. Caribbean locations feature higher SPF formulations and stronger insect repellent, while Hawaiian properties emphasize compliance with state-specific ingredient regulations. Kits retail for $28-45 depending on configuration, with children’s versions available at 30% discount. Corporate accounts and travel advisors can access bulk pricing for group bookings, and loyalty program members receive annual complimentary kits starting at gold tier status.
