Abu Dhabi, UAE β ADNOC has signed a multiyear artificial intelligence partnership with OpenAI and Abu Dhabi technology group G42, announced on 2 November 2026 as ADIPEC 2026 opened in the capital. Under the agreement, ADNOC becomes the first energy company in the world to deploy OpenAI Frontier technology.
What the partnership covers
Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, said the deal will reshape how the company handles field development, asset management and commercial operations, with the aim of making its systems smarter, safer and more productive. The agreement was announced under the guidance of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who attended the opening, said energy companies can use AI to produce energy more efficiently and improve operations, while stressing that people must stay in control and that AI should remain a tool for people.
Energy security in focus
In his opening address, Al Jaber said close to 1 billion barrels have been drawn from global oil inventories since disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, with some diesel stocks at their lowest seasonal level in 35 years. He noted that shipping and logistics now make up more than 30% of the cost of a barrel, up from under 5%, and called for a shift to “intelligent” energy systems that can anticipate risks and cut costs.
