About UAE Flag Day
Flag Day is marked every year on 3 November, the anniversary of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan becoming President in 2004. The flag was designed in 1971 by 19-year-old Emirati Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah and first raised by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on 2 December 1971. Flag Day is not a public holiday; normal working arrangements apply, while schools and workplaces hold flag-raising ceremonies.
