Dubai, UAE β UAE-based filmmaker and TV host Punam Verma will release Men On Pause, a documentary about menopause and its impact on marriage, careers and identity, on YouTube on 6 November 2026.
About the film
The documentary uses humour to open up a subject that is often left unspoken. It explains menopause and perimenopause, a transition that can last up to 10 years and usually begins in a woman’s 40s, and looks at a link it says is under-studied: the connection between menopause and divorce. It also covers how symptoms can affect careers and finances.
Verma interviews experts including menopause specialist Dr Louise Newson and therapist Marisa Peer, as well as men and women who have lived through it. She describes the film as an accessible overview rather than an in-depth study.
How it started
The project began about two years ago after Verma heard friends say their husbands did not understand what they were going through. She made a trailer before writing the script and filmed all interviews over three days.
About the filmmaker
Men On Pause is Verma’s second feature. Her debut, the comedy We Need To Talk, won a Muhr Award at the 2012 Dubai International Film Festival.
