Dubai, UAE β Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching the emirate’s first integrated smart monitoring system for delivery motorcycles. The system will be voluntary until the end of June 2027, after which it becomes mandatory for delivery companies.
How the system works
It combines an electronic platform, Internet of Things (IoT) devices and cameras mounted on motorcycles to track:
- Speed and sudden acceleration
- Hard braking and riding patterns
- Location and routes
Delivery companies will get real-time tools to monitor their fleets and riders, correct unsafe behaviour early and build training programmes based on actual performance data.
From inspections to real-time data
Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the RTA, said the system marks a major shift in how delivery activities are monitored and will detect risky riding more accurately. Developed with Dubai Police and other authorities, it moves the RTA from conventional inspections to proactive, data-driven oversight.
What companies need to know
The transition period to 30 June 2027 gives operators time to complete technical and operational preparations, with RTA support throughout. The authority expects the platform to build a full database of delivery operations as demand for delivery services and the number of motorcycles on Dubai’s roads continue to grow.
