Sharjah, UAE – The Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) is pushing ahead with an AED 2.4 billion package of expansion and infrastructure projects designed to raise the airport’s annual capacity to more than 25 million passengers by the end of 2027.

- 11,601,728 passengers handled from 1 January to 30 September 2026
- About 19.48 million passengers in 2025, up 13.9% year on year
- More than 100 destinations served worldwide

What the expansion aims to do
The projects focus on boosting operational capacity, improving efficiency and passenger services, and widening Sharjah’s international aviation and tourism links. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of SAA, said the expansion is central to the authority’s development strategy, combining infrastructure investment with efforts to attract new airline partners and destinations.
Sharjah at World Travel Market London
SAA is taking part in World Travel Market London 2026, held from 3 to 5 November at ExCeL London, under the umbrella of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. The authority has exhibited at the show for more than two decades and plans to use it to deepen ties with airlines, tour operators and tourism partners, and to explore new markets.
