The station has been designed to accommodate passengers travelling between the Jebel Ali and Mohammed Bin Rashid Metro Stations, as well as connecting to other public transport such as taxis and buses.

Prior to its opening, the station underwent a six-month trial period from 1 August 2007, with approximately 400 passengers using it each day. The station cost AED 1.5 billion to build and was funded by the Dubai Government, ADCB and the Japanese Government.
