The Dubai currency rate is controlled by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates which is a member of the UAE and has no fixed exchange rate against any other currency. The value of the Dirham has been pegged to an undisclosed basket of currencies since 1980. A fixed exchange rate means that a currency will always trade at a constant value against another currency. The code of UAE dirham is AED, UAD. We use د.إ as a symbol of the UAE dirham. The Dirham is subdivided into 100 fils, as in the other Gulf States. The coinage consists of copper-colored 25 fils, 50 fils, and 1 dirham, silver-colored 5 dirhams, and gold-colored 10 dirhams.
Notes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 dirhams. The front of the note is written in Arabic, while the back is written in English. The dirham to the dollar exchange rate is set as dirhams to one US dollar. The exchange rate of most international currencies with the dirham swings daily since they are not fixed to the dollar.
